You Guys! Sheesh! These are just vehicles. With plastic tops. Not Stradivarius violins or irreplaceable pieces of art..The top is like a Porto John...molded from plastic and easily repairable...If you make a mistake, get out the bondo and the touch up rattle can of spray paint...no one will ever know... Maybe I am callous, but if I should damage my 84 van, I know I can fix it. Yes, taking your time and being careful when you do stuff like mount some roof racks will save you work. But I am amazed at how big a deal it is for some to (gasp!) put a hole in The Vanagon... Sorry Steve...no attack on you is meant...Maybe I am just a little cavalier, having worked on million dollar yachts....and drilled holes in them, near the water line (above, I hoped) or cut into $40k carbon fiber masts to mount hardware, etc etc. "What a man builds can also be repaired by man...or even re-floated, I guess..
