I recently moved one to the frame rail.. tucked up in nicely. still, I can imagine some real thrashing and bashing and a rock or branch or something hitting or catching the fuel filter.. even though it's higher up under the van than the driveshaft skid bars are ..

so I'm thinking maybe they thought that was a better protected spot for the fuel filter. the fuel pump still hangs down there some .. and will be underwater fording 16 inches or so of water.

but I think that's maybe why it's hidden up in there so well.

I like to make everything *real* easy to work on and access.

and ..heck....how many car engineers have spent years busting knuckles working on cars on hard to reach things ? .. not enough of them, that's for sure !

one I just pulled out .. looks like 'maybe' it was changed once in this 91 sycro's life. It was a brand I haven't seen in years. about 90 % clogged too. what fun.
