HI Troy ... you are probably talking about a 1.9 wbxr vanagon .. and those came stock with just the small fuel filter between fuel tank and fuel pump.

it is common to add a 'large silver can' fuel filter ( 86 and later vanagons ) downstream of the fuel pump.

sometimes people remove the small sq . one when adding the larger better one. and sometimes they just leave it there, so there are two filters.

Probably the better deal is just the one large metal round can fuel filter , and use brass hose adapters and fittings or whatever ( that's safe and solid ) to connect fuel tank to fuel pump directly with hose, and eliminate that small sq. fuel filter .
