I read the thread started by deer master squirrel and found it informative... I'd like to explore a different angle if volks are open to it.

i knew i was going for a big trip this past weekend and didn't have much time to prepare so i ask my local mechanic to do an oil change for me before i went (first time for them). the engine is a 94 1.9 TD, and the dipstick is not stock... or else it was stock before the engine got into the westy... in any case the lines are way above what the engine needs.

the shop added about 6 litres which made the dipstick look right. sure didn't make then engine happy (of course). so it got hot enough to blow it out into the turbo, suck it back it, and have a runaway minute where it rev'd way too high, even after shutting the ignition off. now... it pumps oil into the engine when it tries to start... painful to see the blue cloud. it runs ok once it's warm, as long as it gets a steady feeding of fresh oil (don't ask how much :( we did make a 1200 mile trip, intact. i promise to ride my bicycle more to make up for all the extra stuff we added to the atmosphere though...

so... thoughts on what i should expect to hear when the mechanics look her over tomorrow? piston rings? valve job? bigger or smaller job?
