A good guideline for anyone contemplating buying property in Mexico: Don't buy anything you can't afford to totally lose.

We lived in Baja for about 10yrs, watched a community of Gringos develop around us to where it is now quite upscale...But at any moment, this same thing being discussed that's happening on the mainland, that could easily happen in our former 'home' away from home. We sold out and moved on, not wanting to live amongst our American, Canadian and European neighbors in Mexico...All the Locals bought new 4X4 trucks and lots of beer after selling their lots, then in a few years looked around and said..."Hey, my truck is all rusty, the tires are bald, the beer is all gone and you Gringos are re-selling MY property for big profits...I want it back" Not a happy place to hang out anymore...unless you are a rich Gringo using it as a second home..

It happens all the time, property being swiped. Happens now in the US also...Money talks...politicians and officials take the money and bend the rules or change them to suit whoever gives em the most cash... It's just that Mexico is a little more "macho" about it all...they use the army and guns and wade right in, showing how big they are, and do the deed... In the US, they send lawyers, get court orders, condemn properties and 'evict' the rightful owners...That makes it a bit more civilized appearing, but the result is the same...I feel for the people of that town who're getting the shaft...but that is the way it is..
