just in case there are vanagonauts who are not familiar with tyical glue-on inside rear view mirrors...
( which you can put anywhere on the inside of the windshield of course ) ...
those are very common in the automtoive world...like 'most honda's' etc.
FLAPS sell 'rear view mirror adhesive' little kits all the time.
I noticed that a 93 Eurvoan has a glue-on mirror and looks like it might be just right for a vanagon.

The PO of my van had installed a second, low-mount mirror that worked nicely but a state inspector made me remove it a couple of years ago. I wound up cutting and extending the stalk of the existing Westy mirror using about 6" of 1/2" copper tubing and that works very well.
To those who would say, "Just learn to use the outside mirrors," I reply that I know how to do that and still like to have a useful inside rearview mirror, and the extended stalk provides that.

I'd be tempted to not have the overhead cabinet,
as with that in place, if it's like a westy, you can't see the horizon out
the back window using the inside rear view mirror.
mounting the inside rear view mirror lower will fix that though.
or maybe you won't have that problem ,
but personally I don't like the restricted view when it's like that.
