The Vanagon Auto does not easily lend itself to the flushing method of changing fluid. No easily disconnect or cut easy external ATF lines. The flush method has partly been developed as it is the only way to get the fluid in the torque converter.

I think the operative word here is "had it done" most places use a back flushing system and do not change the filter or drop the pan. just asking for trouble.
