Jake, you cannot remove the face plates from those speakers. You need the speakers that were on the '88 ? and later vans that have four screw holes in the face plate that holds the speakers to the door panel. The old style speakers like you have are held to the door with a big screwed on plate from behind. There is no way I could ever figure out to separate the face plates from the speaker on those but the later model it is possible and quite evident when you seen them.
