That sounds correct. My machine said that it pulled just under 3lbs. (1990 Westy)which would agree with your figure. I was trying to make an educated guess at the amount of R134a since the only info that Bentley has was to state that the system holds 50 ozs. of R12 which would presumably include about 3 ozs. of oil for the compressor. I have always heard that only about 80% of the volume for R12 is needed in R134a freon. Glad to know an exact figure which should be around 2lbs. 13 ozs. with allowance for the PAG oil. ? David Clarkson 90 Westy ?

At 03:28 PM 8/10/2010, Jeff Schwaia wrote...? >"270 liters of oily freon gas"... You must have the optional? >super-duper,? >heavy duty A/C system! ;-)? ? R-134a weighs ~4.25 kg/1000 liters at atmospheric pressure and room? temperature, so 270 liters is about 1.15 kg of freon. VW says the? Vanagon holds 1.35 kg of R134a, so really, he must have the? slightly-shrunken, light duty system.?
