'windage' .. in AAZ 1.9 TD engines and tdi's ..they all use a 'windage tray' .. helps keep oil away from the crankshaft .

waterboxer is a little different .. a more shallow sump. In all the VW air-cooled engine building and hopping up over the last several decades that has occurred, maybe someone has made one for air-cooled VW opposed fours, which are similar in the sump area to waterboxers.
