I posted in that Samba thread.  Not all of us have access to early bay Westy parts vans which have those mirrors still intact (how many can there be out there?), and so must rely on imagination and experimentation to achieve the result we want.  The guy with the copper tube suggestion got it right.  Works, looks acceptable, cheap and easy.   Stephen     --- On Fri, 8/13/10, Alistair Bell <albell@SHAW.CA> wrote:

I guess you missed the bay window long stalk mirror, which was my main reason for posting link

It, in your words, "looks factory", not at all "retarted"

lots of  ideas here, and if you follow thread to second page, there is a pic of the  long stalk mirror that was installed in some loafs/ baywindow  vans

Lame.   first of all those homemade extentions look retarted, and  they draw attention to the fact that the mirror was modified. Plus i imagine  they take some time to cut/drill/weld/lengthen.  why bother.

just remove the stock vanagon mirror completely...and install the glue on type from a early eurovan.     simple..  takes less  than 5 minutes, and it looks factory!!!
