many vanagons have their OXS light and charge warning light wired so they both come on if charging is not happening. mostly early ones .. havn't noticed it later vanagons ..but early ones, for sure.

good suggestion on the Votlage regulator/brush package.

it's two screws that secure it.

don't let a FLAPS person keep you from getting a Voltage Regulator. I needed on for my volvo Bosch alternator on a trip once.

I know the parts store is likely going to say they don't have the right part. But I also know that MANY bossh alternators have voltage regulators that fit and work about the same way. it helped to tell the guy this is what I do full time, like for 30 + years and I know what I'm talking about .. that got them to look in a couple of parts boxes and match one up. worked just fine. Hate it when the parts person is between me and the part I know they likely have and the parts person is the issue, not the parts in the store. Happens too easily.

is it fuel injected ? any EFI car needs more power to operate off the battery alone, compared to a carbbed engine. not likely it will last 10 hours.
