For that matter, I don't think I've ever patronized an African-American or Hispanic mechanic, either - and I've been to a LOT of mechanics over my vanagon years, not being one myself! I have come across Korean and Japanese mechanics. It's not a matter of country - the vanagon community definitely doesn't reflect the racial & ethnic balance of the US. Of course we could also raise questions about the gender imbalance in the vanagon community, and even more so in the car mechanic community - but somehow everyone seems to take that for granted.
