Richard,

We have crossed several times on our way from MI to upstate NY and also for the past two years camping at Buses of the Corn.

If you do not have a passport and don't really need one then a less expensive method is to aquire an enhanced driver's license. Cost about $45 - you have to provide some extra ID to the Secretary of State office (or DMV where ever you do these things in your state). The license should arrive in a couple of weeks and allows passage to and from Canada and Mexico without the need for a passprt.

Post 9/11 reality, at least in my experience, is that we get more questioning coming back into the US than we do entering Canada. We've had to pull over for inspection once but it wasn't that bad.

Also, be sure to purchase any produce after you cross the border - they still don't approve of carrying fruits or veggies accross the boarder (and some meats too).

Enjoy your trip - sounds like it will be awesome.
