"Those in the know" on Samba forums have claimed that a can of Seafoam (split to have some in the gas tank and some in the crankcase) will help to quiet the lifters quickly and prevent the reoccurrence, and others swear by Marvel Mystery Oil. That lifter noise can be shockingly disturbing until it goes away.   Stephen

Mike - My past experience with lifter noise on my old 2.1 is that it took a good 15-20 minutes for the sound to go away. So one mile usually isn't going to do the trick.
