Hi Don,

The big problem with propane is range. You won't go nearly so far on that gallon of propane as you do on a gallon of gasoline. With Propane and LPG being simpler molecules, there simply isn't quite as much energy available to be released during the process of combustion.

The tanks are also expensive and bulky for a Vanagon.

Here in Toronto there are no propane filling stations in the downtown area whatsoever. The only propane sold there is via 25lb tank exchange. There are filling stations in the suburbs, and lots (most) taxis and a lot of fleet vehicles run propane here.
