I was having a difficult time removing and replacing the pads on my German army surplus DoKa a few months back. Thought the pads were a bit oversized what with a bit of paint of the edges or some such thing. Turns out, after a quick flashlight inspection, that there was a pretty good-sized wad of rust on the insides of the calipers blocking the way. Got out a hammer and chisel (screwdriver?) and sandpaper, etc.; after a bit of effort, had a functioning brake. Really should replace both calipers, but ...
