Hi Michael, I noticed something very similar on my '88 and took some 600 grit paper and wet-sanded all the connections. This seems to have removed some oxidation and made everything run cooler. For good measure I drilled a few holes in a horizontal line below and above it, with the idea of providing some cooling airflow. Not sure that helps, but the cleaning sure did. Also, just making sure the screws are tight-tight-tight is a good idea.
