How large an inverter are you installing that it can't stay above the floor line? If you need to drill to the outside just use a good sealer or paint to prevent corrosion at the connection. Stainless hardware will keep itself from corroding but any exposed body steel will still rust. The inverter should be matched to the battery size for a number of reasons. A group 41 battery will have trouble supporting anything above 400 watts for any length of time.

I have a '91 Multivan with a secondary battery kit under the driver's side seat. I want to mount an inverter behind the battery compartment (i.e., behind the driver's side jump seat). Due to the geometry of the inverter, two of the mounting bolts can be installed inside the battery compartment, but the other two need to be mounted below the depth of the battery compartment. I assume that this would require the bolts to protrude into the wheel well. Is this a crazy thing to do? I was thinking that caulking would be a necessity, but how many other considerations are there? Stainless nuts, bolts & washers? Should I spray the area in undercoating after installation? I have a great love for this van and am hesitant doing things that might introduce corrosion. If you need pictures I can send you an idea of my proposed installation location.

Thanks in advance for any ideas,

DW
