re Thank God for the '80s, say I. I think mid-80s to mid-90s are the sweet spot in modern automotive history. Totally ! right about 1988 is 'just right' . Vanagons are the same 86 to 91 of course, tech wise , but more 'most cars' .... right around the late 80's.
