OK- here is the deal in Ontario. Last year I was refused a refill because I did not have a propane inspection decal. I contacted the TSSA which in Ontario is the authority which regulates gas station, propane stations etc. etc. I was surprised that I got a response in short order. After clarifying that I was asking about a propane system which supplied only appliances (not anything to do with propulsion) I received confirmation that " While it is a good practice to have the propane system inspected periodically THE ACT IS SILENT about systems used solely to service appliances. NO INSPECTION IS REQUIRED." Armed with that eMail I was able to get refilled by a local dealer. It turned out that the local TSSA inspector had told the retailers that they were liable for HUGE fines if they supplied propane to vehicles that did not have the inspection decal. The inspector wrongly did not differentiate between propane POWERED applications and propane systems dealing soley with appliances.

Ironically my tank developed a leak shortly after.

The bottom line is that you may be correct about your ASME tank but the other guy has the propane. I have a 12v compressor fridge set up now, an Espar diesel heater and intend to set my stove up to work off the little green propane bottles.

I also have two good used propane tanks if you need one and one of Frank's Propex heaters brand new, still in the box. Make me an offer.

Ian Allan
