One more thing that helps a lot is practice. If you've never changed a alternator belt, get one, change it in the comfort of your domicile, keep the old one as the spare. Try to imagine what pieces will stop you dead in or by the side of the road, practice those repairs. Spare tire mounting and dismounting and a large trash bag to put the empty tire in is one likely adventure. Two extra lug bolts/nuts stored with the jack and the 19" breaker bar or torque wrench along with the PVC cheater bar can save the day and the bacon. Hand cleaner, antiseptic, bandaids...knuckles usually bleed before brakes. Yada yada... y'all get the picture. I carry a set of coveralls in resplendent red, your choice of colors may vary. Works as a leisure suit in a pinch. Keeps your expensive patagucci outerwear presentable after the adventure is relegate to legends of the road. Pensioner. |
