Let's see if I can get away with writing about wool shirts:

Methinks that people vary in their response to wool. My wife gave her father and me identical (except for pattern) Pendleton shirts once. We both donned them the next morning before breakfast. The morning was spent in light activity by both, mostly in each other's company. By noon, my father-in-law's skin was a thicket of rash, red, itchy, even burning. I was cool and comfortable. He gave his shirt to me, and I have worn both numerous times with never a problem.

Similar experience with socks. My wife can't wear wool socks next to her skin (she puts silk ones under the wool, then things are fine). Wool socks are my favorite; In winter I wear a thin pair and a thick pair together for warmth and cushioning. For my wife, even the modern no-itch wool causes itching unless it is quite cold.
