Hey Mark, shouldn't a VW Brain know this answer? ;-) If the screws are really loose, using the punch method to remove the pin to get to the screws might just snap one of them or bugger the threads. My solution to this, years ago, was to take an old cheapo mini-wrench, like 5mm or 6 mm, (you know, like the ones you buy a full set of for 2.99) and weld a short section of 4mm allen wrench in the end of the wrench at 90 degrees. Tuck this in the tight spot to tighten the ridiculously inaccessible screws.
