It depends on your refrigerator <shrug>. I bought one of those remote
thermometers, a physically small one. I put the "outside" probe in
the refrigerator and used velcro to attach the main unit to the shelf
above the refridge. This was I can check in the inside temps and
decide if it's working well or not.

Have you looked at the refridge write ups at Vanagon.com? I took mine
out and cleaned everything, the bottom drain tube was solid with rust
and it's 14" long before it curves up. I followed the Bentley
instructions to pull it and put it back, it went well.
