Thanks, everyone who has sent messages! It's working. The ferry was TOTALLY on time (this is unheard of, with Marine Atlantic), I made it from N. Sydney, Nova Scotia to Bangor, Maine yesterday with no hassles. And one totally serendipitous event. Jim & Laurie Wallace, vanagon folks from somewhere in Ontario (but not on this list) were in Newfoundland in their van. They had planned to come to St. John's to visit Keith Pike & me, but they had problems - mechanical, hurricane-ferry conflicts - and couldn't travel that far. So we didn't get to see them. Bummer. So yesterday, I'm parked in the Cape Breton visitor center, having used their free wifi - I walk out of the building to see a vanagon pulling in - it's Jim & Laurie, on their way west. They saw Matilda in the parking lot, thought they might as well look on the odd chance that it was really me - and bingo, I walked out of the building just as they pulled in!

Sweet! Alas, since I wanted to make it to Bangor yesterday, we didn't stop to have lunch and swap tales, but it was great to run into them.

An hour or two later I was getting sleepy, pulled over to have a catnap. I was just about to get going again when a vanagon pulls up - Jim & Laurie again, saw my van on the side of the road and thought I'd broken down. (Jim's a vanagon mechanic by profession.) Fortunately, no such bad luck, but it's good to have friends watching out!

Heading to Boston today, visiting friends tonight, on to the NY area tomorrow. Hopefully all will continue to go well!
