the one broke off because the others were loose.
It's a classic common issue .
the only way I would tackle it is drill out the bolt.
Drill it right on center with a small drill bit, like 1/8th.
then drill bigger and bigger heading toward the right size to tap it.
with luck, the thin shell left in the threads will just fall out when the
bolt is really thin..like mostly drilled out.
if you need to, then tap it.
I have never gotten an easy out to work, or almost never.
usually they are either tightened in well, or corroded in.
Might as well try some 'unscrew methods' ...I wouldn't invest much energy
there though ..
just get real patient, get some good drill bits - cobalts are brittle ,
don't use those ..a good High Speed Steel bit, and drill at a lowish speed.
that works for me, for sure.
might take an hour ,
and gettting the hole started dead center is a trick..
but as you start driling that hole, you can't 'walk' it around some, where
it is drilling , by tilting the drill ..get it dead on center .
then the rest is not bad.
make yourself some nice working room if you can ..so it's not a struggle. ,
like get other stuff out of the way.
new bolts are a fine idea.
I would install them with something on the threads ..
teflon paste, like pipe joint compound is good ..
prevents corrosion, sticks 'em in a bit.
Permatex high tack gasket sealer works too. Wouldn't lock tite them though,
at least not with super strong grade.
I torque 'em in pretty good ..
guessing 50 ft lbs. or so.
there are vanagons with this syndrome. It's not that uncommon.
