I was in Oregon getting gas with my '87 (the cap used the ign key) and the girl doing the filling was having troubles, she was really forcing it. I was worried that she might break the key off in the gas cap lock. The '84 I have now uses the short key, that's on the same key ring as my ign key so the cap has to be back on or I won't have my keys to start the VW but the gas attendant in Oregon won't be able to break the ign key off in the gas cap <g>!
