Yes, same key for both, true of all Vanagons we have owned (86, 89 Westfalia, 90 GL, 87 Wolfsburg Ed. and 87 Syncro). The latter two we still have.

I need to get a new gas cap to pass smog next time. Ok this year, but with deterioration of the seals or whatever it is, the cap probably will not pass muster next time.
