I use AAA and have used to death the last three years. There is a plan
for towing up to 2-300 miles I believe. Thats the one I have and they
have towed my vanagons several times each tow was over 100 miles,
didnt cost a cent and the driver wouldnt take a tip.. The single
caveat that they dont really put out there is that the plan only
covers FOUR road service calls for a calendar year. So change a tire
+1, run out of gas well that makes 2. Need a tow that makes three and
you know have one more for the rest of the year.
I did get the better of the deal because we got the family plan and I
have a card as well as my wife. Each card gets four service calls so
its not bad.
Costs something like $130 for both membership cards for the year. One
tow for 100 miles is well over $300 so its not a bad deal. AAA will
tow the vehicle anywhere you want even your backyard or the mechanic
way across town. It doesnt matter. It does not have to be towed to one
of their "recommended" shops. AAA covers the driver not the vehicle so
even if you are riding with someone and they need a tow no problem.
I dont work for them or anything like that but other than the coverage
from the Good Sam club on the motor home the AAA was the best I could
find that worked for me. Check out their website and see what you
think. it may not be good for you.
If you have a westy you might try to get coverage through good sam
club. Fantastic insurance and road service for more than a reasonable
price.
