Annie, some folks would use "Rescue Tape" or perhaps another brand of silicone repair tape, though I have no experience with another brand -- and some of them are thinner formulations. I have the "professional grade" Rescue Tape, which is thicker than the regular. It is not really intended for permanent repairs, but is purported to be able to withstand the temperatures and pressures of engine fluids, and some people claim to have left repairs with it in place for extended times. My roll travels with me on the road for emergency repairs.
