fwiw,
I really like dealing with rust ..
and all I ever use is a power wire brush ..like a wire brush on a Makita
disc grinder.
Takes it  to bare metal in seconds.

I'm thinking you might be wanting to get 'down in' crevices more ..
and for that a blasting media would be better I'd think.

did you google or wik-it ?  re 'soda blasting'.

I never use a grinder on rust though, never anywhere.
that's for removing material..
we just want to remove the soft rust and get to whatever real metal is left
under it.
and grinding leaves grinding marks of course.
a power wire brush barely does.

and ..for crevices ..once as clean as I can get them, I treat the metal down
inside the crivice with Rust Converter....the kind that says 'turns rust to
primered metal.'
