As I stated earlier, you need the VIN from the original car to search at the dealer and get the code. Some stereos have the ability to change the factory code. If this has been done and is not written down....you will not be able reset the stereo. ________________________________ From: Annie <lsandrsn@GMAIL.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Sun, September 26, 2010 1:01:23 PM Subject: Re: Trying to get radio to safe mode I don't know if it works on VW this way, but in my Acura, the reset was holding down, I think, the MODE button and entering the code - which happened to be the last 4 digits of the VIN. If that's the case, I'm not sure what you can do since you don't know what make/model it even came out of short of taking it to a dealer and seeing if they can find out. Hopefully it's something different for VW. Standard reset codes for a variety of electronics is often '0000' or like you've already tried '1111.' You could also try the last 4 digits of the serial number, if there's one listed on the unit somewhere. *Annie Anderson* Blogger, Designer, Thinker & Mom web: annieandersonblog.com email: lsandrsn@gmail.com twitter: silverlunace <http://twitter.com/silverlunace> facebook: anniesanderson <http://facebook.com/anniesanderson> *Blazin' a trail where there is no path.* On Sun, Sep 26, 2010 at 7:28 AM, John Reynolds <transporterjr@yahoo.com>wrote: > I have a VW factory radio with a CD input on the front that I want to > install in the my 86 Vanagon.
