If it is in SAFE mode when you turn it on then you have three tries to enter
the
code correctly using the station selector buttons.  After three failed
attempts you
have to wait 1 hour to try again.   Holding simultaneously down the
scan/seek button
and the am/fm band button together brings it into SAFE mode.
