Subject: Anyone know, off hand,
the size and treads of the CV cap screw/bolts?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

I have some coming soon but I would like to see if perhaps I might pick some up locally to use this weekend. I've got mine just about worn totally out and I just re-installed my tranny, with the old ones going back in ...sort of...I think I got most of them tight to at least 35 nm and a few up to proper spec..Also a few are pretty well stipped out totally..they are not very tight. I think they will hold till my replacments come, but if I can find some today at my local hardware, I would at least replace the ones that are not very tight and run a bit carefully like that till my new "set" comes and I can remove and replace. It looks like this may be the last really beautiful Indian Summer weekend, so I want to get out....

I know I know.. "Don't drive without the proper torque on those bolts" and "VW spec-ed that torque for a reason" and and and.... So I just told myself that,...... to save trouble for those who'd be telling me that in a reply.... But for a "risk-taker" and sometimes VW Engineer ignorer......anybody know the length and the tread pitch on those? I have seen some at my local True Value Hardware, metric, in various sizes...I could drive over and go under the van, pull one out to take into the store...but I thought it would be easier to ask.. Thanks. Don Hanson
