On the advice of a listee, I got the bolt and bushings that connect the shifter to the shift rod. While I was at it, I got a guide ring and a boot for the other end. When I got everything apart, I discovered: 1. The fore-and-aft bushing in the joint between front and middle shift rod seems to be shot. 2. The center bushing (in the body) is gone. 3. The guide pin is bent. 4. The rubber pad on the side of the shift box is missing. Actually, it's worse than this. Some PO, lacking a guide ring, put a rubber hose on the guide pin. I took that off. So, with the new parts, a cleaning, and some grease, the whole thing is a little better better. But not much. Mark Peregrine fille ('82 AC Westy) San Diego, CA |
