OK, I braved it and put it all back together with the new switch, and all seems to be OK. Van starts just fine. The only thing It may have been (I checked and on the harness end only one connector had a wire to it) is the buzzer, which does not buzz now with the key in the ignition-but then it was intermittent before anyway.
