dear leaky and exhausted
do a visual inspection first ...
look for marks on the pipes and at the connections where there is a soot
print ..
it will look as though someone held a match or lighter inplace for a period
of time ...
especially look for indentations ... dents ... worried metal or what os
clearly fatigue ... at hangers and bolt up ...or gaskets ...
if you have a hoist ... put the rig in the air and start it up ...
while it is still pretty cool run your hand along the parts with out
touching the actual metal ...
becareful of fingers and moving parts ...
move along slowly ... you are feeling for the feel of air blowing on your
hand ...
it will be hot or warm air ..and it will feel dirty ... as opposed to wet
or muggy ...
after you have shut off engine ...
put in your ear plugs and tap along the pieces of ehaust with a metal hammer
... (not a hammer made of metal ) but a hammer made for metal )
which will ironically be also made of metal ...
tap the pieces and lok for places where the hammer penatrates or the tapping
causes bits ot fall off ...
if you are listening for leaks ... it has been my experiance that you are
already past the point where visual inspection will be required ...
except for the purpose of part identification to make sure your order for
new ones is accurate ...
aslo the appearence of dead passengers after running inplace for an extended
period of time is a failrly good indicator
