Troy,
while your under there freezing your fingers, have a look at the
condition of the fuel pump where it contacts the bracket. The pump
body is aluminium and the bracket painted steel. I've seen vans where
the bracket has rusted or paint has come off, and the bare steel
contacts the pump housing and causes, yes you know this was coming,
dissimilar metal corrosion... white powdery crustiness on pump. I
recall one listmember writing about pump body being eaten through by
this.
If this is beginning to happen, and you can't paint due to time and
temp, then at least slide a thin bit of plastic (milk jug) between
pump body and bracket.

ps about clamps, do you (don't laugh) have a mercedes dealership/shop
"nearby"? can get clamps from them.

Hi folks:
I bought a new fuel pump and charcoal canister filter a while back,
and would like to put new clamps on when I change things out. I also
got a new 2 foot length of 12mm hose to go from the fuel tank to the
fuel pump. That cost me $15, believe it or not. Apparently I do not
have a stock set up, as someone put in a pre-filter, which supposedly
was done away with by 89. Anyway, would like to get some clamps for
the 7 mm hose as well as for the larger 12 mm hose. I tried the
ultimate garage, and normally I don't like to say bad things about
vendors, but these guys were awful. Why on earth they could not put
6 hose clamps in a padded envelope and put some stamps on it is
beyond me, but apparently that was too much effort. They certainly
were very good making excuses as to why they could not do it.
Anyway, looking for a mail order source to get some clamps.
Hopefully, somebody willing to ship first class to Alaska. You guys
in the lower 48 have it made when it comes to shipping! Many
companies only ship UPS ground, and are totally unwilling to go out
of their way to do anything special, like put stamps on an envelope!
Thanks,
Troy in Fairbanks, where we presently have an inch or so of snow.
What happened to summer?
On a positive note, the Peloquin Limited slip differential is a blast
to drive with in the snow! Love it!
