In your search you'll probably read about lining the slider tracks with something like a nylon tape or strip to help quiet the infamous slider sound.  Supposed to be a huge improvement.  If you happen to try this while you're doing this job please let us know the result.

is the grooved part gone or the bearing inside? if latter you can
maybe find a sub. cartridge. There is at least one thread on the
samba showing how.
