A Unisyn is way better, IMHO. You can get very, very accurate readings from the floating plastic ball, much more than by listening to a hose.

Back in the sixties, my dad would bring home those acoustic headsets they handed out on airplanes. We used them to balance carburetors and they worked well because they went to both ears and because the plastic plug had a step on it the made it easy to get it the same distance into the carburetor every time. An eight of an inch in or out made a lot of difference, the main reason I never liked just using a tube.

I still have my Unisyn. I already admitted that I still have the carburetor manuals, which shows that I might somewhere in the back of my mind entertain the thought of a british car again someday. But yesterday I successfully rode past a nice 66 or 67 MGB with a tarp over it without knocking on the owner's door.
