Actually there are MANY vans 'out there' that compare with the vanagon. Hyundai, Toyota, Mercedes (and others) make a cab-forward design like the vanagon, BUT they are all front engine, so there is no walk through feature and for that reason they are not so popular with the camping crowd.

There are also NEW ( = modern) mini-van styles that are popular (again VW, Hyundai, Toyota, Mercedes), BUT the 'dancefloor' is shorter & one needs to buy the stretch version to get the same 'dance-floor' of the vanagon. These are very popular with the European camping crowd. For example: http://www.bilbos.com/range/vw-celex/ Some are 4wd also.

AFAIK, These all exist internationally EXCEPT in the USA/CDA, as I understand it, due mainly to int'l trade wars. m

I so wish that some kind of Vanagon equivalent was still being made so that I could own a newer one that wouldn't take so much special care to maintain. There is just nothing else out there compares to waking up in the bush while enclosed in your tiny, perfect Vanagon.
