Subject: Mellow Yellow all better now

Back in July, a fellow driving down our street struck a parked '72 bay window, pushing it up and over the curb to strike the right rear quarter panel of Mellow Yellow, mashing it, mooshing the bumper and kinda crunching the hatch.

After wrangling, the driver's insurance company coughed up $2,900 for repair. New quarter panels, etc., are NLA, but a body shop here found a junkyard Vanagon with a clean panel.

They had the van in the shop for two weeks. I got it back Monday. Looks brand-new back there. The hatch repair is flawless, the new panel looks, well, brand new. My mechanic had a rear bumper he was throwing away that was in better shape than the one on the van, the body shop straightened it and painted it black to match the front one. The paint on the panel and hatch is a perfect match for the rest of the van except it's not oxidized so it's a tad bit shinier with a bit more color. Gave me the can of leftover paint. They also went around and touched up a few spots of seam rust I had seen. To my eye, they a flawless job.

$2070. Baby gets new shoes. Rocky is happy.
