if I may...
use the fuel system with the jetta engine.
the vanagon injectors , for example, are much different .
jetta uses a fuel rail with injectors in it, not individual injectors like
vanagon.
you want the entire jetta engine management system.
96 must be almost the first year for immobilizers..
from what I read about tdi's with immobilizers ..
you need either the original key and transponder or whatever it is i the
dash, that talks to the ecu to make the engine run, OR ...have the ECU
modified so immoblizer is not involved.
I do have the Bently on that year jetta ..I could investigate that.
it so happens that the 83 diesel style diesel vanagon engine carrier bars
locate the engine in the just righ fore-aft position to work with waterboxer
trans in stock location.
you need DV bell housing and input shaft ( or shorten wbxr one ) .
DV oil pan, a matching oil pump, cast aluminum DV engine mounting brackets,
left and right.
And I do them with DV style exhaust mounting system as well.
and DV flywheel .....or equivilant. ( I have two Euro 1.9 TD flywheels that
are heavy duty ...
more heavy duty that 1.6 stock diesel vanagon , for sale , with pressure
plate ) ..
the stock DV pressure plate and cluch disc will work though. Stock it's
'ok' ...but not as strong as would ideal.
also, DV starter.
air filter is one of the last things to sort out, and Chrysler minivan is a
fine generic round can air filter.
I often use rectangular plastic vw jetta/rabbit air filters, modified
sometimes.
The Chrysler can will fit behind the left tail light nicely....that works
just fine.
I would research on the immobilzer issue first myself.
I have heard of people that had to have the original car's instrument
cluster somewhere in the van ..
enen in a rear cabinet, so the key could talk to the component that tells
the ecu it's ok for the engine to run.
I believe that's how it works - - Ignition key tells a device in the
instrument cluster wirelessly, that this is 'the key' for this car, and then
the device tells the ecu via wires that it's ok to start the engine.
tdi guys know more about that stuff.
