Peter,
A common problem which can make the electric window inop is from the wires
fatigue breaking in the harness that feeds into the door. It's covered with
a rubber boot which you'll have to split to get a good look. If the
connection is broken in there you can sometimes verify by holding the power
switch on while opening and closing the door. If you get a momentary
operation, you've found the problem. Splicing a new wire in there is a
challenge.
