I was under the van today, doing this and that and noticed that the plastic coolant lines were pressing down on the heater hoses (and pinching them somewhat) where they pass through a cross member (just forward of the shift linkage "U joint". There is a tab above the pass through hole on the cross member, and I assume that is to hold the gear clamp that was around the plastic pipes at that point. The gear clamp was tight, so I am guessing that sometime in the past the clamp slipped off the tab and a PO had noticed the loose clamp and just tightened it, not realising it was to go over the tab. Another exciting moment in vanagon land :) alistair '86 syncro 7 passenger '82 westy, diesel converted to gas in '94 http://shufti.wordpress.com |
