If you're ever in the Reno area around mid to late September do yourself a favor and go over to Reno/Stead Airport it's about 10 miles outside of Reno, home of the Reno Air Races, not only do they race some exotic planes of the past there are a whole lot that are there just to be seen. The best day, IMHO, is Sunday. After the races are over a lot of planes head for home. You can sit in the bleachers and watch an amazing display of airplanes taking off. Well worth the wait after the races are over. Who knows how long they will allow this event to occur so take advantage of it while you can. Oh yea the races are pretty cool too. If you get a pit pass you can get really close to these beauties and often times meet the pilots and crews and even get tours if your timing is right. They have an amazing static display and often these planes are open for tours too.
