I've only seen these in pictures. It seems to make sense since some Volvos can use VW engines. The 80's Volvos used the diesel engines found on VW LT trucks. The bolt pattern on the bellhousing matches. And speaking of bolt patterns, the 944 engines supposedly match as well. It might not be surprising as the early 924's used the gas engine from the VW LT! Guess what? The SA T3 bellhousing fits Audi and VW engines.
