hey watch it, the only connection I have with merlins is my grandfather cast aluminium (yes Ben, it was pronounced that way) bellhousings for them during WWII.

I can't imagine stout British workmanship failing, unless the con rods were English :)

Nah, they come apart just like the 2.1's.

Come to think of it I've seen a Merlin throw a connecting rod in a manner very similar to our beloved waterboxers -
