I strongly suspect you have a sample defect. If there were a significant problem with the switches that, for example, Bus Depot and Van-Again sell, we would have heard about it long ago.

The ignition switch *is* a highly stressed component, somewhat like the light switch. If you want it to last forever, use it to drive relays that do the actual switching.
